Dr. Daan van Heesch is Head of Prints and Drawings at the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) and a Research Fellow at Illuminare – Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Art (KU Leuven). He holds a PhD in Art History from KU Leuven (2019), where he authored a dissertation on the cross-cultural receptions of Hieronymus Bosch in the Habsburg world (1500-1700).
Van Heesch has received several grants and awards for his research, including the Rogier van der Weyden Prize (2014) and the Bader Prize (2019). He completed an internship at the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History in 2013 and held pre- and postdoctoral fellowships at the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and KU Leuven (2014-2020).
His work on Bosch, Antwerp art and the global reach of prints has appeared in journals such as Master Drawings, Oud Holland, Print Quarterly and Simiolus. Van Heesch is also the co-editor of Netherlandish Art and Luxury Goods in Renaissance Spain (Harvey Miller, 2018). His current research interests lie broadly in the cultural history of drawing and the circulation of prints in the early modern world.
